![]() Zeus Bicicletas Zeus used to be Spain’s leading manufacturer of racing bike parts and bicycles. It closed in 1987 as a consequence of mismanagement and lack of innovation. People in the Basque country remember the brand with sentimentality, for it was one of the main employers in the area of Duranguesado. Once we started our search for witnesses of the glorious past, it seemed that everyone who’d been remotely involved with the business proudly kept an “authentic Zeus” on the attic or in the basement. The former manufacturing plant, though, seems to serve the exact opposite purpose these days. When entering the place with former professional cyclist Pedro Horrillo, he was recognized with disbelieve: “What are you doing here? You’re a sports person – this place is no good for you!” Read the entire reportage in Rouleur Magazine, issue 29. |
